Genius:
Genius often arises when someone manages to escape formal schooling.

Leonardo da Vinci – Not allowed to attend most schools because he was illegitimate.  Much time to draw & study nature.
Michelangelo - Not sent to school until the age of 10.  Hated it: Ran away to draw and watch other artists at work.
Galileo Galilei - Had a private teacher.
Sir Isaac Newton - Did poorly at school (next to the bottom of his class).  Moved to the country during the Great Plague: Had time to think.
Benjamin Franklin - Three years of school, total.  Self-taught.
Alexander Graham Bell - Dropped out of high school after just two years.
Thomas Edison - Had only one year of formal schooling.  He was thought to be “retarded.”
Marie Curie - Was given a year of complete freedom at the age of 15.
Albert Einstein - Thought to be “retarded.” Didn’t talk fluently until the age of nine.  Never graduated from high school: Dropped out instead.

“I am convinced all of humanity is born with more gifts than we know.   Most are born geniuses and just get de-geniused rapidly… We have created an educational system that in truth interrupts the students’ education.” - - R. Buckminster Fuller
